Regarding the legalization of foreign documents at the consulate, this procedure is somewhat more complicated. As for individuals, they should submit a passport and fill out a special application. If necessary, documents issued to another person can be submitted for legalization as well. This requires a power of attorney certified by a notary. Legal entities must submit an application containing their details and a seal, as well as a list of documents that need to be legalized.

What documents are not subject to legalization

Despite the possibility of documents legalization, there is a list of documents that cannot be legalized. Including:

• documents and acts that contradict the current legislation of Ukraine or contain information that defames honor and dignity;
• originals, copies and photocopies of passports, military identity cards, employment record books, permits, vehicle registration certificates, driver's licenses;
• documents issued by bodies that exceed their authority.

Stages of foreign documents legalizations

Consular legalization of documents is done in different ways. In most cases, the procedure is as follows:

• Going through the procedure in the relevant ministry or representative office of a foreign state.
• Putting a stamp on the original in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• Translation and notarization.
• Affixing the stamp of legalization in the Ministry of Justice.
• Certification in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• Certification by the consulate of the relevant country on the territory of Ukraine.

This procedure is suitable for all countries that did not sign the Hague Convention.
